Current Education Requirements for Neurophysiology Health Workers in Australia

as at March 2019

Currently there is no set education route for Neurophysiology Health Professionals in Australia.

Workplaces vary with their requirements for employment.  Most Neurophysiology Health Professionals in the public health sector are now required to have a Bachelor of Science with a human anatomy and physiology component.  Practical training is generally provided by the workplace (if you are employed as a Trainee/New Graduate/similar).  A workplace may expect you to complete the clinical neurophysiology subject at one of the universities offering this.

Charles Sturt University offers a Bachelor of Medical Science (Clinical Physiology) and Central Queensland University offers a Bachelor of Medical Science (Clinical Investigation).  Both of these courses incorporate Clinical Neurophysiology into the degree.

ANTA Inc. is near completion on the development of the Competency Skills Assessment Tools:  Perform EEG (Basic) and will be offered to members and non members by mid 2019.  This will provided the candidate with appropriate practical competence recognition as is required for Accredited Membership of ANTA Inc.  An update on the availability of practical assessments will be posted when available.

ANTA Inc’s Suggested Training Pathway for Clinical Neurophysiology Technologists/Scientists can be found on the ANTA Inc website under Careers.
